Ship a Side Project in a Weekend
My repeatable process for going from idea to deployed product in 48 hours without burning out.
Why a weekend?
Constraints breed focus. When you only have two days, you cut the fluff and build the thing that actually matters. This is the exact loop I run for every small project on the zone.
The Friday-night setup
Before you write a line of code, get the boring stuff out of the way:
- Register the domain (or subdomain —
something.ruki.zoneis free for me). - Scaffold the repo from a starter you trust.
- Wire up deploys so
git pushships to production.
If deploying isn't a non-event, fix that first. You'll be doing it a lot.
Saturday: build the spine
Pick the single core interaction and make it work end to end. No settings page, no dark mode toggle, no marketing site — just the one thing your project exists to do.
// One function that captures the whole point of the app.
export function transform(input: string): string {
return input.trim().toLowerCase()
}
Sunday: make it real
Now you polish: empty states, error handling, and a landing page that explains the value in one sentence. Then you ship it and tell people.
The takeaway
Done and shared beats perfect and hidden. Every project on this site started as a weekend experiment — some grew into paid products, most didn't, and that's completely fine.
